Distillery District Rack House Restoration and Reconstruction

Three walls of the Distillery Historic Districts Rack Houses G & J  were restored and retained in place while the remainder of the materials, bricks, stone and wood were dismantled and shipped to storage. A large hole was excavated where the Rack Houses once stood and the Gooderham and Clear Spirits development consisting of underground parking, retail ground floor space and 2 residential towers were constructed by Tucker Hi-Rise. Once the developement was above ground the materials were returned to site and reconstructed in their original configuration. Close to 160,000 bricks were used to reconstruct the historical facades and ramp wall and all heritage elements were laid entirely in Natural Hydraulic Lime mortar.
